Genre-Free Exhibition_Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Store to Host Limited-Time Bonsai Exhibition and Sale
Happy New Year 2026!
Our first event of the year is "Bonsai," fitting for the new year.
As the store owner, I myself have always been interested in bonsai and owned a few. I started by buying them at the gardening section of local festivals, somewhat on a whim, but they have a delightful charm and elegance when you look at them.
Bonsai offers an allure and a sense of wabi-sabi that regular houseplants don't, and I truly feel that the combination of nature and art is wonderful.
Beyond the charm of bonsai itself, I was also impressed by the story of bonsai artist Yurie Ohno, who works under the name "Bonsai Shop Granddaughter." She's reviving the bonsai garden her grandfather ran.
Bonsai often carries images of being difficult, expensive, or a hobby for older gentlemen like Namihei, but the more you learn, the more you realize that many are surprisingly casual and easy to care for.
This pop-up also offers bonsai for sale, and smaller bonsai can be taken home directly.
During the exhibition, even beginners can easily chat with the bonsai artist, so please feel free to visit.
